I had a sales call today from a leading group of gyms, offering me a corporate membership - I understand the pitch: add gym membership as a bonus to the pay packets of your employees, as happy, endorphin charged work force is better than a fat, lethargic one on the road to heart disease. This is all very well, but what if I don’t want to sweat in public? I am a Wii fit girl safely in the confines of my own lounge, with what I describe as a generally active lifestyle and a balanced, organic diet. It is a life choice not to attend the gym, just as it is my life choice to eat organic food. If I were given the choice between spending time outside of work hours sweating, or time at work eating more, then there is a clear winner for me (and surely I am not the only one who would vote pro-food!).
The Organic Delivery Company, a small friendly, family-founded, local firm was recommended to me by a friend last year. It is not the only organic food business with a home delivery service which covers Wandsworth (and beyond) and it certainly isn’t the best known, but in my opinion the prices are so reasonable, the choice is vast and the staff are really nice (phone the office or order online at: www.organicdelivery.co.uk). I mention them as a healthy gym-bonus alternative, as they recently started a new office delivery service, so you can order a box of fresh fruity goodies, or a selection of biscuits or savoury bites with cheese, or even a basket of teas and juices to be delivered fresh to your office.
So, if you feel you deserve a bonus for all your hard work and dedication, but don’t (like me) fancy collecting it in the local sweat box, I suggest a weekly delivery of organic treats could be suggested to the boss, as it will help not only improve the health of the work force, but also the productivity of the team… and seeing as apparently 6 million of us failed to turn up for work yesterday (building snowmen on the Common seemed like hard work to me!) maybe we should all give it a try!

I would like to welcome Bellevue Road and Battersea Rise to the fold! 2009 has brought with it the launch of two more street websites, dedicated to another two special shopping corners of our fair Borough of Wandsworth. May you all enjoy these extra street websites - show your appreciation for your favourite businesses by writing a Review - all you have to do, is find the business’ listing in the directory and start typing out your recommendation! These websites are an OPEN PLATFORM - its not just me that can write on them - its YOU TOO! The websites received hundreds of visitors each day - but we don’t just wantto welcome spectators, we would like contributors too! So if you have something to say about Battersea, then publish your own comments, reviews and news on YOUR street website!

I really do enjoy Christmas; for most of us, it means time off work, every reason to over-eat lots of delicious food and of course the joy of giving and receiving gifts. Look no further than Lavender Hill for tonnes of great places to purchase special items for loved ones. I have been staring unashamedly through the collections at Lillidiva and Olivier’s Lounge; they have utterly mouth-watering selections of clothes, accessories, boots, shoes, hand bags and jewelery, which any lady would be more than glad to receive! Lots of the shops and stores, salons and restaurants have special seaonal offers running and many have Gift Vouchers available too.
My only worry is that Santa won’t know where I am this year! Although I have not moved house since last December, I won’t be at home on the 25th this year, as I am spending the festive period with my partner’s family on the south coast. I am relatively happy about this arrangement (as happy as one can be looking forward to a long weekend with the in-laws), but I am a little worried that Santa won’t know where to find me and I shall wake up on Christmas morning to find my stocking bare!
I have already warned my fellow Christmas-dayers, that I will be systematically beating everyone at the hallowed game of Scrabble, across all of the festive period. I should think I will be as popular as Bubble and Squeak! I read today that every year we unnecessarily throw away 2,500 tonnes of brussel sprouts worth about £10million (source: www.lovefoodhatewaste.com). There is not much room for waste in my household as whenever I fail to clear my plate, my hollow-legged and infuritatingly slim friend “C” visits and happily hoovers it all up! The moral of this Christmas message? Waste not, want not, especially during this time of crunching credits!
I wish all readers of the Battersea Girl blog, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
I hope Santa knows where you all are this Christmas day!
